Kyra ten Brink, afstudeerstudent aan de Willem de Kooning Academie, is momenteel bezig met een crowdfundingcampagne voor haar bijzondere afstudeerproject Journeying Home. In dit project onderzoekt Kyra de verbinding die vrouwen voelen met zichzelf. Door middel van beeldende kunst en samenwerking met een talentvolle printmaker uit Amsterdam, brengt ze dit thema op een unieke manier tot leven.

Home – Een kunstzinnige verkenning van thuis

Kunstenaar Cham Chahda werkt aan haar nieuwe project “Home”, waarin ze onderzoekt wat thuis betekent. Is het een plek, een gevoel of een verzameling herinneringen?

Met verschillende materialen, sculpturen en lagen laat Chahda zien hoe thuis iets blijvends kan zijn, maar ook veranderlijk. Ze haalt inspiratie uit persoonlijke verhalen, cultuur en thema’s zoals migratie en herinneringen.

“Home” is a deeply personal exploration of belonging, memory, and identity. This project delves into the fluid and complex nature of what “home” means—whether as a physical space, a feeling, or a collection of experiences. Through mixed media compositions, sculptural forms, and material layering, I examine the contrasts between permanence and impermanence, stability and displacement.

Each piece within “Home” reflects a different perspective on the concept, drawing from cultural heritage, personal narratives, and universal themes of migration, nostalgia, and transformation. The use of diverse materials plays a crucial role in conveying these ideas—some elements appear worn and weathered, symbolizing history and passage, while others remain raw and undefined, capturing the transient nature of home as something we constantly seek, redefine, and rebuild.

At its core, “Home” is an invitation to reflect on our own connections to place, memory, and identity. It speaks to the resilience of individuals and communities in shaping a sense of belonging, even in the face of change and uncertainty.

Afgelopen week brachten kunstenaars Kwannie Tang en Man-Yee van Studio Maky een bezoek aan de tuin van GB5. Tijdens hun bezoek bekeken zij de mogelijkheden van de boomhut als onderdeel van hun bijdrage aan de GB5 Zomerexpositie 2025.

Artist statement Cham Chahda

My practice as a multidisciplinary artist is rooted in material exploration and the dialogue that emerges between different textures, forms, and surfaces. Through my work, I explore themes of identity, transformation, and cultural heritage, reflecting both deeply personal experiences and universal human connections.

At the heart of my creative process is an exploration of the human condition—both psychologically and physically. I construct each figure using a diverse range of media, intentionally balancing contrast and harmony to highlight the unique characteristics of each material. This interplay not only shapes the visual language of my work but also reinforces its thematic depth.

Each new piece is an opportunity to push artistic boundaries, embracing experimentation and discovery. My work serves as a testament to resilience, illustrating the power of creativity to bridge divides and foster meaningful connections across people and cultures.
