Heleen Verwey

Heleen Verwey is a Dutch artist, now living and working in South Africa. She has a diverse background in art, having worked in Theatre, Television and in Music, both as a singer and an organizer.

For the last 15 years she has worked as a fulltime artist and her work has been exhibited widely in Holland, Europe and elsewhere. Her work falls in the genre of “informal Art”. She uses different mediums in which she expresses herself- canvas, wood, stone, resin, soil, sand and many found objects. Heleen”s work is strongly influenced by symbols and spiritual icons of African, Eastern and Latin American cultures.

Her work is now part of many private, important collections and museums in the world. Her work has been bought by the Royal Dutch Art collection and by Embassies.
She won the Belgium Biennale Award for painting in 1996.

Heleen is represented by agents in Europe, South Africa and America. She has exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions all over the world. In 2006 she will exhibit in The Netherlands, South Africa and Mozambique. She has also been assigned to produce art for the new building for the European Union in Namibia.

Her work has been published in many newspapers and leading magazines in Europe and Southern Africa. Her art has been reproduced in postcards, posters, catalogues and calendars.
